Plain-language terms for a simple product: a free family tree poster editor, and print-ready files you can buy once and use for your family.

1. About these terms

TreeKeepsake is operated by YOUR FULL NAME OR BUSINESS NAME ("we", "us"). By using this website, the editor or the files it creates, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. Our privacy policy and refund policy form part of these terms.

2. The service

TreeKeepsake is a web-based tool for designing family tree posters. It runs in your browser: you enter your family's details or import a GEDCOM file, choose a chart, theme and size, and see a live preview.

  • Free: the full editor, all themes, chart types and sizes, the live preview and a watermarked, low-resolution preview image.
  • Paid ($19, one time): print-ready files without a watermark, namely a vector PDF and a high-resolution PNG, for every tree you make in the browser you purchased in.

Your projects are saved only in your browser. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of your source information, because we cannot recover projects that are deleted from your device.

3. Purchases and payment

  • The price is shown on the site before you buy and on the checkout page. It is a single payment, not a subscription. Sales tax or VAT may be added at checkout depending on where you live.
  • Payment is processed by our payment provider on its hosted checkout page, under its own terms.
  • Your purchase is digital content that is made available immediately: downloads unlock in the browser you bought in. If you clear your browser data or change devices, contact us with your order details and we will help you restore access.
  • If you live in the EU or UK, you have a legal right to withdraw from some purchases within 14 days. Because the files are made available immediately at your request, that statutory right may end once the download is unlocked. This does not affect our voluntary 30-day money-back guarantee described below.

4. Money-back guarantee

If you're not happy with your purchase, email hello@treekeepsake.com within 30 days and we will refund you in full. The details are in our refund policy.

5. Your license to the files

The posters you create combine your family's information with our layouts, themes and ornaments. When you download files, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use them for personal, non-commercial purposes. That includes:

  • printing as many copies as you like, at any size, for yourself, your family and friends;
  • giving printed or digital copies as gifts;
  • having the files printed and framed by any print shop or online printing service;
  • sharing pictures of your poster, for example on social media or in a family newsletter.

You may not:

  • sell the files or prints of them, or use TreeKeepsake to provide a commercial design or printing service to others;
  • extract, resell or redistribute our themes, ornaments or layouts as templates or design assets;
  • remove or work around the watermark on free previews, or share unlocked access with people outside your household.

Fonts embedded in your files are licensed under the SIL Open Font License, which allows this use.

6. Your content

The family information you enter remains yours. We don't receive it, so we claim no rights in it. You are responsible for what you put on a poster and for having the right to use it. Please be considerate about personal details of living people, especially when sharing posters publicly; the editor can hide the dates and places of living relatives.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the service for anything unlawful, or to create content that harasses, defames or invades the privacy of others;
  • attempt to bypass payment, licensing or download limits, or interfere with the purchase verification service;
  • copy, decompile or reverse-engineer the service to build a competing product, except where the law expressly allows it;
  • overload, scan or otherwise disrupt the website or its infrastructure, including with automated tools.

8. Our intellectual property

The website, software, themes, ornaments, layouts, text and branding of TreeKeepsake belong to us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. These terms don't transfer any of those rights to you, other than the license to your files described above.

9. Changes and availability

We work to keep TreeKeepsake available and to improve it, which means features and themes may change over time. We may update the service, or suspend it for maintenance, without notice. If we ever discontinue the paid downloads, files you have already downloaded remain yours to use under these terms.

10. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties beyond those expressly stated in these terms. In particular:

  • We don't check the accuracy of genealogical information; the content of your poster is your responsibility.
  • Printed results depend on the printer, paper, ink and settings used. Colors on paper can differ from those on screen.
  • GEDCOM files vary between programs. We aim to import common files correctly, but some data (for example photos, sources or unusual custom fields) may not be imported.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for loss of data stored on your device. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the place where YOUR FULL NAME OR BUSINESS NAME is established (YOUR CITY, REGION, COUNTRY), without affecting any mandatory consumer protection laws of the country where you live, which continue to apply. Before taking any formal step, please contact us: most problems can be solved with an email.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version on this page, with its "Last updated" date, applies from the date it is published. Changes don't affect purchases already made.
